Internships; Your chance to outshine the competition in business

Strathberry Internship Opportunity
Strathberry Internship Opportunity

We are proud that here at SoSS we have fostered strong relationships with businesses and therefore can offer our students several fantastic internship opportunities during their Master’s programmes. An internship offers you, our students, the real experience that the teaching environment can never replicate, this fact alone makes the internship experience invaluable.

Currently, we have several companies working with us to offer internships to our students; many of these are globally located meaning their internship placements could be located across several locations or countries (even continents!) providing you with a global business & cultural perspective to your internship experience. An internship feeds into your course – for example, both the Array Marketing and Baxters Food Group internships are directly linked with your MSc dissertation project. Whichever way you look at it, being successfully recruited onto an internship will enhance your career prospects and business acumen in a way that your MSc programme couldn’t do alone. This is why we are so proud to be able to offer so many of these exciting opportunities to you our students!

How Can We Help?: a marketing podcast, by Karen Sinclair

Karen Sinclair who studies International Business Management with Consumer Psychology

The Marketing team participated in a podcast this month. A part-time MSc student – Karen Sinclair approached us last month as part of her International Marketing Management assignments. Karen created a Podcast featuring the many ways Heriot-Watt University makes studying more accessible to all. Karen is herself a disabled student with carer responsibilities too and wanted to complete an MSc to enhance her prospects and futureproof her career. She studies International Marketing management with Consumer Psychology and in this podcast interviews Claire-Jayne Seller of the SoSS Marketing Team, Dr Kathryn Waite the Programme Director for International Marketing Management and one of her fellow cohort Carla John also a parent student with carer responsibilities on how the University provides for students who are not part of the mould.

We hope that you enjoy listening and that if you are thinking of studying any of our MSc’s in the School of Social Sciences and have any additional needs (such as a parent/carer, or have a disabilities) this podcast provides you with the enhanced knowledge on the facilities and structures in place in SoSS and the University as a whole and encourages you to apply to study with us!

Meet Jessica Doyle

Jessica DoyleSince joining us in August 2016 as a Recruitment, Admissions and Marketing Assistant, Jessica’s found her interest, curiosity and of course knowledge of the variety of different things that spark an applicants interest to studying here at Heriot-Watt University fascinating.

As an alumnus of the School of Social Sciences – studying both an MA (Hons) in International Business Management and an MSc International Marketing Management with Digital Marketing, Jessica has brought a wealth of knowledge on the student journey within the University to the team. As well as assisting as a student ambassador, Jess gained further marketing experience through internships and writing blog posts, one of which was about her trip to China with the Confucius Institute of Business and Communications (SCIBC).

Going forward, Jess will be focusing more of her role on assisting with the marketing of the School of Social Sciences and the communications within the School’s research expertise. You can also find Jessica outside of the office in a park with her pet pug puppy – Sir Arthur!
